She is a practice owner and Doctor of Physical Therapy in Life in Motion Physical Therapy, a community outpatient orthopedic facility in Jersey City, NJ; certified in Applied Prevention and Health Promotion Therapies, an Adjunct Instructor for the Doctorate Program in Physical Therapy at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences in Newark, New Jersey; a visiting Faculty of the FEUNRMF School of Physical Therapy,; a Capstone Coordinator at the University of Montana/Rehab Essentials Philippines Based Transitional DPT Program; Director at Large for the American Physical Therapy Association NJ Chapter (APTANJ); a Founding Officer and Current President of the FUTURE Foundation; a multi-awarded PT, one of which is Societal Impact Award by the American Physical Therapy Association last 2019, and a working member of the APTA’s Staff Work Group for Internationally Educated PTs
In this episode, we scratched the surface of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We talked about what those terms mean, how those concepts affect or impact our profession and practice. We also discussed concerns Filipinos encounter when begin their life and practice in the US. She introduced to me the concept of professional acculturation and how it is different with assimilation, and what Filipinos can do to adapt with the new environment and culture. Lastly, we talked about the APTA working group for internationally-educated physical therapists (IEPT) and how it helps internationally educated and trained physical therapist in navigating through their new professional practice.
